On June 4, 2026, sophomore students rushed down to the Snack Shack to meet Ms. Lisa Bergamotto and Ms. Janelle Duryea-Lojko, the English teachers who were supervising us during the trip. Everyone took attendance, met up with their friends, and filled up two party buses. On the way to New York, students played games with their friends, listened to music, and ate some snacks. Once we entered New York, we took a group photo in front of the Broadway theater. The teachers passed out tickets amongst the students, and made us make sure we knew our seat row.
As I entered Broadway, huge shiny, glamorous and elegant chandeliers caught my eye. Just being in such a fancy establishment intimated me, as there were at least five security officers just at the entrance. As I walked up a red spiral staircase with gold railings it led me to the showroom. Me and my friends found our seats and sat in anticipation for the show we have been waiting months to see, The Great Gatsby. On the stage was beautiful blue water and luminescent blue and green northern lights.
The show itself was phenomenal! One of the biggest highlights of the production was the costumes. Sparkling flapper dresses, metallic fabrics, feathers, elegant gowns, and tailored suits all fit the Jazz age atmosphere in the 1920s. The music in the show purposely drew you in and intended to create emotions, as songs sounded dreamy, romantic, and sometimes even dramatic. The production used brilliant scenery and eye-catching lighting to emphasize each scene perfectly. Although, one thing I noticed was some changes in the scenes, some things weren’t added from the book.
All in all, this was an amazing performance and experience! If you ever get the chance to go see it for yourself, I highly recommend it!
