Dear Vickie,
I’m struggling with physics a lot and last quarter I had a really bad grade, but I don’t know where to get my resources from for help.
Sincerely,
Dumbstruck by Physics
Dear Dumbstruck by Physics,
I would definitely recommend going to the Homework Help Center if you want resources at SBHS, and try asking your teacher if they stay after school to offer help! You can also ask around, there are definitely upperclassmen that tutor, or different volunteering programs; I know the libraries in South Brunswick and Plainsboro have opportunities to get help! There are also definitely online resources to look out for, and sometimes something as simple as a YouTube video can help out a lot!
XOXO,
Vickie
Dear Vickie,
I want to major in the humanities, but I don’t know if I’ll get a job that way. Should I just give up and pursue STEM?
Sincerely,
Idk what to do
Dear Idk what to do,
This is one of the most fretted-over things, especially at a school like SBHS, where it seems like everyone is STEM oriented. A friend once told me that “your dream job is out there, you just don’t know what it’s called yet,” and honestly, that was really reassuring to hear. I don’t think you should let the job market or money motivate you so young. Go to college first and pursue what you are passionate in, and then find a way to make it work as a career if you want it bad enough. You also don’t have to think about it as either/or! You could find a pathway that combines both aspects, if you want to do something STEM and humanities related. Your major ≠ your destiny, and while it carries significant weight towards your future, it is not an end all be all. You should pinpoint exactly what it is that you want, that you’re good at, that you can pursue and try to build off of that into something that isn’t just fulfilling monetarily, but fulfilling for you.
XOXO,
Vickie
