With Senior Society beginning today, we wanted to give Karim and Eliza, our outgoing Editors-in-Chief a chance to say a final farewell to SBHS and The Viking Vibe and share their words of wisdom.
We will miss them both, but we are also excited that our publication will be in the best hands with our three incoming Editors-in Chief: Om Bhaskar, Bhavya Natarajan and Ashley Soltys. We are all looking forward to year two on the new site!
From Karim:
“Over my last 4 years at SBHS, the Viking Vibe has been my weekly second home where I can write nonstop about any and all of my interests. That’s the only part that hasn’t changed about our paper. Otherwise, I have watched and been apart of the best change that’s happened to SB’s press. The Vibe has grown in every aspect, including more writers, more stories, and more readers. I thought Mr. Honig was crazy for the goals he had in mind back in June of last year, but looking back over the past year, our paper has achieved even more than any of us could have imagined. We’ve published twice almost every school day this year, getting to more articles in one year than ever before. That all happened because of our great staff, board, and our advisor all working tirelessly on every aspect of what makes the Viking Vibe. We designed a brand new (and pretty great) website. I’m proud to have worked with all of our staff over the last year to essentially build the Vibe back up from scratch. I know the following years will show even more success, and I can’t wait to see what you all will bring over the future as great writers and readers, as long as you always turn every page.”
From Eliza:
“Over the four years I have spent with the Viking Vibe, I have been fortunate to experience countless opportunities that have helped me grow both as a writer and as a person. Through the club, I strengthened my writing and editing skills, learned the value of journalism, and met many incredible people along the way. When I first joined the Vibe, I never realized how expressive and freeing writing could be. I always thought writing had to follow a prompt and be so impressive that every reader would be amazed. Over time, I learned that this was never the case. Journalism provides a unique platform to explore ideas, tell stories, and discuss topics that matter. It is one of the most powerful forms of expression, and I am immensely grateful for it. Looking back, I feel proud of how much I have grown and of the work I have contributed. The Viking Vibe has been a creative, welcoming, and rewarding part of my high school experience. It is especially meaningful to see how much the club has grown. What was once relatively unknown during my freshman year is now recognized and discussed throughout the entire school community. Being able to contribute to that growth alongside such a dedicated board is something I will always cherish.
As I leave, I am confident that the future of the Vibe is in good hands. The underclassmen I have worked with, along with the new editors-in-chief and board members, are talented, intelligent, and full of creative ideas. I have no doubt they will continue to help the publication thrive while making their own lasting impact.
Thank you Viking Vibe. Best of luck to everyone who continues to write, create, and share their voices through this publication.”
