Dear Vickie,
Every single time we have homework assignments, I feel as though I spend so much time doing it well just for all of my friends to text me later asking for the answers. If it was just one thing or absent I’d be more understanding, but it’s so repetitive and it leaves me feeling used. I really do want to help my friends out, but It’s so annoying feeling like I’m the only one who has to do the work! I usually cave in because saying no to them feels selfish. What do I do about this?
Sincerely,
A Stressed Student
Dear A Stressed Student,
You shouldn’t feel selfish for saying no to people, especially in a situation like this, where it’s clear you’re putting yourself first. Setting boundaries is important, and if this starts to become the only reason they’re your friend at all, make sure you communicate how you’re feeling! The worst way to ruin friendships is when it’s over something that can be resolved by talking it out, so there’s no point in waiting for that resentment to build. I know it seems like your feelings are not that big of a deal right now, but this situation is so easy to solve.
Even if you don’t want to go out there and express your feelings to everyone, remember that “no” is a full sentence. The next time somebody asks you to do something for them, save for exceptions where they aren’t making you feel used and repeating unfriendly behavior, remember that you don’t need to do anything for them. There’s nothing wrong with helping out, but you don’t owe it to anybody to spoonfeed them!
XOXO,
Vickie
Dear Vickie,
Is there a way to request articles for the Viking Vibe to cover?
Yes! First off, you can always come to our club meetings to pitch any ideas, we meet Tuesdays or Thursdays in A205. We also have a form in our Instagram bio, and I can link it here as well! This is our story submission form, where you can pitch any ideas for stories you may want to cover or want us to cover! We do encourage that you come to our meetings and try out writing it for yourself before requesting the staff do it!
XOXO,
Vickie
Dear Vickie,
When is the unreleased episode of Stranger Things coming out?
Sincerely,
Millie [redacted] Brown
Dear Millie [redacted] Brown,
Conformity-gate did not happen, as unfortunate as that is. To hear more about The Vibe‘s take on the final season of Stranger Things, go stream our podcast, The Viking Voice (out now on Spotify and YouTube)! Specifically, episode two “Some Strange Things.” We debrief season 5 and break down some other interesting things happening in the film and TV industry, like the Netflix and Warner Brothers deal.
XOXO,
Vickie
