The Viking Vibe is proud to present “Humans of South Brunswick.” Inspired by Humans of New York, this is a look at the different stories and experiences of the various people in our community. Click here for Part 1 and here for Part 2
Salman Elgendy (2027)
Salman Elgendy, a current junior at South Brunswick High School who is involved in sports like Soccer and distance running in Track and Field. Elegendy is also the class council Vice President for the junior class and will continue to represent the school in that same role next school year. He claims that junior year has become more trouble-free after completing his exams. For senior year, he looks forward to “ending up doing good, being hardworking and strong.” Salman is enjoying his junior year so far, as it has become a lot easier after he finished up AP exams. He plans on exploring the medical science field after graduation and is interested in majoring in psychology.

Darius Gilliam (paraprofessional)
Darius Gilliam is a proud member of the security staff, serving as head of athletic security, where he manages the hallways and (less favorably) the school parking lot. When asked what made him choose this job, Darius explained, “I chose this job because I want to make a difference in the school community. A lot of change has happened since I went to SBHS, and I want to ensure that all students have the same experience at South Brunswick as I was fortunate enough to have.”
Darius enjoys working with students and helping create a positive atmosphere throughout the school. Looking toward the future, he says his dream job would be to become a school counselor. “I would definitely love to be a school counselor and learn to understand students better and assist them in whatever they need,” he shared.

Mr. James Cafiero (Teacher, Technology Education)
Mr Cafiero is a first-year teacher who teaches engineering and video production here at South Brunswick High School. He advises Viking Television Network (VTN) and enjoys the process of teaching students and seeing “what they learn in class.” When it comes to VTN, he claims the most stressful part is writing the script, and creating a production itself becomes stressful, especially doing it for the first year. Another stressful part of his job is technology, as many things can go wrong. He has considered maybe coaching soccer, as he played pretty much his whole life.
