She’s The First held its Cupcake Wars event on March 19th at South Brunswick High School’s blue cafe. The event was not only a fun opportunity to make your own little cupcakes but a fundraiser to send money to women in developing countries so they could get an education.
The event also featured four local community leaders as guest speakers, women who shared their experiences working in male-dominated fields. One of the women, Ms. Trikila, conveyed the importance of following your own path and career rather than meeting others’ expectations. Her message sent an inspiring reminder to all women that we are allowed to be our own people.
The atmosphere during the event was lively and welcoming, with many students attending and even bringing their friends outside of school. Many tables were filled with supplies for making the cupcakes.
One student at South Brunswick shared their thoughts, explaining, “I enjoyed the event and hopefully we can enjoy this again next year, honestly my only complaint was how little time we had to make the cupcakes.”
Additionally, after the guests finished speaking they gave us the rest of the time to make the cupcakes. Many students ended up choosing colorful frostings, even adding small touches such as sprinkles or marshmallows, giving us endless choices to choose from.
Overall, the event was a success! It served its purpose of bringing students and communities together. Being part of the cupcake wars has been a memorable experience where I can connect to other women in an empowering way.
