As South Brunswick High School enters the second semester, students and staff are preparing for a busy schedule filled with sports seasons, leadership opportunities, testing, and new policies incoming for the following school year.
In the second semester, spring sports will be starting up with tryouts, games, and other sporting events. Tryouts for Softball (Pitchers & Catchers), Baseball (Pitchers & Catchers), Girls’ Lacrosse, Boys’ Lacrosse, Girls’ Golf, Boys’ Golf, Boys’ Tennis, Spring Track & Field, Boys’ Volleyball, Cricket Coed, and Girls Flag Football start on March 6th, 2026. Student athletes are balancing practices and games with academics. Alongside the normal course load, AP exams and other standardized testing are approaching. Guidance counselors are also beginning the scheduling process for next year. While course selection was due on Genesis earlier in February, students are now having have one-on-one meetings with their counselors to finalize classes.
HiTOPS and Peer have started their interview process and selection for next year. These programs play an important role in supporting underclassmen and building a positive school environment. Students applying for these roles are preparing for interviews while continuing to manage their academic responsibilities.
March includes several important events. The NHS induction ceremony will be on March 12th, where students are recognized for their academic excellence, leadership, and service. The Small Ensemble Concert will take place on March 18th. There will be no school on March 20th for Eid Al-Fitr. The Mr. SBHS Show is on March 26th, which is not something students should miss, as it tends to be very entertaining! Students will then have spring break from March 30th through April 3rd, giving everyone a break to reset before the final parts of the year.
Finally, the Pirandello Players will be staging their spring musical, Grease, a full 40 years after it was last performed at SBHS. These performances will run from April 30th through May 2nd.
April continues with lots of academic and extracurricular activities. Our emergency closing days, which are scheduled for April 6th and 7th, will be taken off from spring break, since we have had two additional snow days. There will be a College and Career night on April 15th, which allows students to explore different career paths and speak with representatives. The High School will also host the Art show from April 22nd to 23rd. The show allows students to display their artwork and projects, attracting a big crowd to the school.
As May and June approach, we wrap up the year with more events. There is the spring concert, allowing for bands, orchestras, and choirs to showcase their talents. There will also be the Powderpuff game on May 20th and Temptasian on May 30th. Both juniors and seniors will have their prom, one being May 15th, and the other being June 5th, respectively. Lastly, graduation will take place on June 26th, wrapping up high school for seniors.
With sports seasons, leadership interviews, performances, testing, and major milestones, the second semester is becoming very busy. As the school year comes to a close, students are working hard and preparing for a strong end. Keep reading The Viking Vibe as we cover these events and many more!
