With less than a month left before the November 26 release of Stranger Things’ fifth and final season on Netflix, there is a lot to cover, so here is the general rundown.
Set in the fall of 1987, the town of Hawkins, Indiana, has to deal with the rifts from the Upside-Down from the Season 4 finale, and the heroes unite to find and kill Vecna, whose location is unknown. The start of Season Five finds the government placing Hawkins under lockdown and launching a manhunt for Eleven, who was forced back into hiding. There is great danger coming as the anniversary of Will Byers’s disappearance approaches, and the group will need everyone to stop it—a full party standing together for one last fight.
Stranger Things 5 marks the end of the series. All of the storylines and most of the character arcs will be resolved in this season. Some character arcs may be left open to interpretation, while others may show a new beginning. The Duffer Brothers, the directors of Stranger Things, also confirmed that they would not leave any “loose ends”, which means that this is the end, no exceptions. They also stated that if there were to be any potential spin-offs, the characters from this version of the show would not be involved. The Duffer Brothers are putting 100% into this final season to make it an emotional and conclusive resolution for this show.
Stranger Things actor Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Lucas Sinclair, said, “It was a very satisfying ending for my character and me, Caleb. I didn’t leave with any questions. I felt like I had a great closure.”
In terms of marketing, Netflix has put out multiple posters, which people are using to connect to the plot. They have also partnered with Target to sell exclusive merchandise inside their stores and with themed Doritos to build excitement for the season. They partnered with more brands, such as the mobile game Brawl Stars. Netflix had released an AI-generated image of Millie Bobby Brown to promote the show, which later received some fan backlash because it was not genuine. Of course, nostalgia is embedded within the partnerships with the 1980s aesthetic to boost better viewership when Stranger Things 5 releases. There have been a lot of promotions on social media through short-form content and interviews. A new trailer was posted, revealing more about the story. The marketing has been pretty consistent for the last couple of weeks, and will most likely get better as the premiere date comes closer.
Netflix wants to keep viewers engaged with the show and maximize hype for the current and upcoming episodes, so the season will be released in 3 parts:
- Volume 1: The Premiere, November 26, 2025
- Volume 2: December 26, 2025.
- Volume 3: The Finale: December 31, 2025
There’s a chance you could be a little behind on what happened in previous seasons of the show. If you feel that way, my suggestion would be to re-watch the entire show, even if it doesn’t feel the same as watching it for the first time. And if you have yet to watch the show, this is the last chance to get in on the hype. Stranger Things 5 may be a month away, but time flies, and when it comes around the corner, get ready!
