On Sunday, February 8, 2026, the National Football League (NFL) will be hosting their 60 annual Super Bowl with an average of 129 million people watching on live TV, and over 70,000 attending The Super Bowl in person every year.
Every year, people all over the United States tune in for football, ads, fun times with family, and especially for one of the most important events at the Super Bowl–The Halftime Show. At every game, a major artist that performs at The Halftime Show, and this year the NFL select Bad Bunny, a Puerto Rican artist, whose songs are all mostly in Spanish, getting around 80 million streams every month.
Bad Bunny will be the first Latino artist to ever perform at a Super Bowl; however, there have been many political outbursts due to the announcement that Bad Bunny will be performing at the Super Bowl. Many Republican figures are not pleased about Bad Bunny performing starting with President Trump, who mentioned on October 8th, “ I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why they’re doing it – it’s crazy.” The President also told Greg Kelly from Newsmax that the choice for this year’s Super Bowl performer was “absolutely ridiculous.”
Due to Trump’s opinion of Bad Bunny performing in the 2026 Super Bowl, three days after the singer was named to perform, it was confirmed by a Trump Administration official that there will be ICE agents attending the Super Bowl this year. The Trump Administration believes that Bad Bunny should not be performing due to having almost all of his songs exclusively in Spanish, cross dressing or dressing gender fluidly, and not touring the US, where immigration is highly controversial. Many Republicans believe that Bad Bunny is not American, though Puerto Rico is part of the US.
Seeing as Bad Bunny will be performing as the first ever Latino artist at the Super Bowl, President Trump will be attending the Super Bowl for the second time in the row after becoming the first sitting President to attend the event last year. There have also been many requests for a counter-Super Bowl halftime performer. One of them, the right-wing commentator Jack Posobiec, said that the rock band Creed should perform shortly after it was announced that Bad Bunny was performing. House Speaker Mike Johnson, requested for Lee Greenwood, who is a country singer known for his song “God Bless the USA”, which is #1 on the US Digital Song Sales Billboard, and the president’s walk out music when exiting his political events. Regardless of these suggestions, Bad Bunny will still be the official NFL performer on the day of the game. Tune into Super Bowl LX to see the shocking events that will occur on this exciting day!
