On a lively Saturday morning, Future Educators Association hosted its latest “Saturday Morning Mania,” bringing together young students for a hands-on, cooking themed event focused on creativity, learning, and connection.
Planning for the event began well in advance. According to FEA President Eliza Khan (2026), preparation typically starts about a month before the event and involves close collaboration between club leaders and members.
The event welcomed students ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade, and followed a structured rotation between each cooking activity. As students moved from each activity to the next, the room remained filled with excitement to try the creative goods they put together.
Students began with making mini pizzas and decorating cookies with icing and sprinkles. Although all of kindergarten through fifth grade did these first activities together, they were later separated into different rooms based on age group to maintain a more calm and organized environment.
The hands-on aspect of these activities kept the children engaged, as they spread sauce, added topping, and decorated their treats.
“It is really fun because once they get comfortable with you, they’re so sweet and really funny,” said FEA member Eiliyah Muhammad (2029). “When they finish their activities, they look so happy.”
Later, kids were split more directly by age group for additional activities tailored to their skill levels. Younger students in K-2 created fruit kabobs, while older students in grades 3-5 created dirt cups.
Muhammad also noted that the experience helped build important skills. “I learned that every kid understands directions differently, so it is important to be patient and be there to help,” she said.
Members of the Future Educators Association guided students through each rotation, keeping groups organized and ensuring that activities ran smoothly. They demonstrated each step, offered help when needed, and maintained an upbeat atmosphere throughout the event.
“It’s really about putting yourself into the shoes of both age groups and then deciding how each activity will play out,” said Eliza Khan, explaining how activities are matched to each age group.
As the event continued, students were excited to continue with their next cooking project.
By the end of morning, the Saturday Morning Mania created a fun and engaging experience for the students–with much excitement to show their tasty creations to their parents. While FEA members end the morning with more knowledge and experience with the real-life environment working with children.
