On March 26, 2026, South Brunswick High School (SBHS) hosted its annual Mr. SBHS show. Mr. SBHS is a talent show for Senior guys to take part in to then be named “Mr. SBHS”. This event is often a student favorite event that combines lots of creativity, humor, and talent into one night.
Mr. SBHS started with a long dance that took planning and time to choreograph and teach to all the contestants from the Student Council choreographers. The dance encompassed many different Disney songs, decades, and styles. Following the dance came the two hosts of the show, Dr. Justin Negraval and Mr. Jeffery Tuliszewski. This year, they lost a host, Mr. Stephan Dentler, after he retired. However, during the show he had made an appearance bring a rise of shock and joy to the audience. During this, a few people selected from the audience had an opportunity to go up on stage to compete against others for various tasks that the hosts had asked them to do.
The competition among the guys had begun with each contestant performing an original rhyme, convincing the audience to vote for them. The rhymes had given each contestant a chance to show personality before moving on to the talent portion.
The talent portion of this competition featured a wide range of performances. Each contestant brought something different to the stage. It ranged from workout talents, magic tricks, all the way to singing and dancing. While contestant Agustya Chinta and Emiliano Reyna Padilla had both similarly performed a workout talent, Rishab Kangyampenta had done a magic trick, and Ryan Santoro had showcased his musical talent. Mario Williams had done an interpretive dance to “Part of Your World,” and Alex Vega had stood out by showcasing four different talents, one of them being doing math. Aidan Fung displayed his artistic skills, and Arnav Mota performed a dance. However, a standout moment of this year’s show was the first-ever duo performance between Ian Taylor and Dami Osinowo. They had done a recreation of a High School Musical scene.
An attendee, Ilhaam Attaar (‘26), had said her favorite part of the show “was watching the performances, and in particular Mario’s Little Mermaid performance.”
In addition to performances, the event included fun awards such as best legs and best dressed, adding another entertaining component to the competition, and also a Viking spirit component, where they were allowed to dress to represent Viking spirit. Given at the end of the show were the following awards: Spirit of the Viking, Move Machine, Best Rhyme, Fan Favorite, Best Talent, Mr. Legs, and Best Dressed. The Spirit of the Viking award went to Aidan Fung, Move Machine to Ryan, Best Rhyme to Alex, Fan Favorite and Best Talent went to Mario, Mr. Legs to Ian, and lastly, Best Dressed went to Dami. Judges and audience members both had a role in deciding the winner. The final Mr. SBHS title had gone to Ryan.
However, planning an event like Mr. SBHS takes time and coordination. According to Historian of the Senior Class Council, Aditi Thakur (‘26), “the posters took a lot of time and needed lots of patience.”
The process of organizing the event involved lots of promotion. Coordination of contestants and ensuring the show ran smoothly, which ranged all the way down to the lights and sound system of the auditorium.
A member of the Student Council, Samaira Tewatia (‘26), NJASC Vice President, had said, “The hardest part of the show was getting the guys to cooperate and making sure everyone was doing their jobs.” However, the one takeaway that she hoped students could take away from this show is that “Teamwork makes the dream work.”
From choreographing the opening dance to running dress rehearsals of the show, many different elements had to come together. Despite the challenges, the work put in by both Student Council and Class Council helped create an engaging event.
