Chess is a game with nearly infinite possibilities. No two games you play will ever be exactly the same. Did you know that a mathematician, Claude Shannon, estimated there to be 10-to-the-120th possible games? My name is Tyler Slavin, and I’m the 3rd board player for the Viking Chess Team. Viking Chess won its first ever Knights of Columbus tournament on Feburary 7th by the narrowest of margins, tying at 13 points with High Technology High School, and winning the modified median tiebreaker 23.50-23.00. Our league chess matches have 5 players for both sides, with 3 points being needed to win. After team tryouts in October, we play a 10 week regular season online, then we have 2 casual over the board weekend tournaments, and finally an over the board playoffs. We hold the number 1 seed going into the playoffs on Feburary 24th, and are hoping to claim our first ever league title!
I wanted to show everyone how players get better by using game reviews. The link below has a game analysis from a game that I won against a High Technology High School player rated about 1750 USCF (over the board rating). This game was round 4 of the Toms River Elks Club Touranment, played on January 18th. I’ve added some comments that explain key moments in the game. Hope you learn something from this!
