As temperatures drop, South Brunswick High School’s winter sports are starting up again. Gyms, rinks, and pools are filling up with crowds again to support the South Brunswick School spirit. At SBHS, the winter sports include Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball, Boys’ Ice Hockey, Boys’ and Girls’ Wrestling, Cheerleading, Dance, Swimming, Boys’ and Girls’ Indoor Track & Field, Bowling, and Winter guard.
Practices have officially begun transitioning into the start of games, meets, and competitions. Basketball season kicked off with the home openers, and the swim team recently had its first meet with a win for the girls’ team, with it being a good meet overall. Track & Field had its first meet on Saturday, December 20, 2025. With these, just to name a few, every sport is working hard towards a successful season full of excitement. As the winter season continues, the excitement is expected to grow. With more games approaching, SBHS teams are ready to give their best effort and maintain strong school spirit throughout the season.
Athletes across all winter sports have been working hard to prepare for the season. Many teams practice daily, focusing on improving skills and working hard to win. Balancing academics with practices and games requires dedication, but athletes say the effort is worth it once the season begins. Coaches and teammates continue to push one another to improve and reach their goals.
As more games, meets, and competitions are added to the schedule, excitement around winter sports continues to grow. Students, athletes, and staff are coming together to create a strong and supportive environment. Last year, winter sports at SBHS had a successful season, which has added to the excitement surrounding this year’s teams. Many athletes are looking to carry that success forward and improve even more.
Junior student Shivam Takyar said, “Our varsity team is looking good this year”. He said this with pure joy about the upcoming season. The SBHS Boys’ Basketball team has a bright season ahead to showcase their talent and passion.
Adding on to hard work and determination, the Girls’ and Boys’ Track teams have been working very hard for their first meet on December 20th. Last year, the girls were 4 for 4 with a clean sweep of GMC relay winners, GMC championships, GMC’s and sectionals! Their hard work for the winter season will make them excel again, and their pride and determination will continue to make them winners.
Overall, SBHS winter sports are off to a great start and are shaping up to be an exciting part of the school year. With athletes putting in hard work and coaches pushing their teams to improve, this winter season has so much great potential. As more games and meets take place, the SBHS community is looking forward to supporting teams and making this winter season a memorable one.
