On September 26, 2025, Dr. Evelyn Mamman, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for the South Brunswick School District (SBSD), announced her resignation. She continued serving on the SBBOE until December 1st, and is leaving to pursue a position as superintendent in the East Brunswick School District.
When asked about what she thought her greatest achievement was during her time on the board, Mamman explained how she worked to keep things consistent in curriculum.“My greatest achievement was advancing teaching and learning by ensuring strong alignment between what is written, taught, and assessed,” Dr. Mamman said.
Dr. Mamman also placed a huge emphasis on working with the wider community to create a more involved and equitable learning experience for all students. “I kept a laser focus on meeting the needs of all learners, while also expanding stakeholder involvement so that parents, teachers, and community voices were part of shaping decisions.” Mamman explained.
When it came to curriculum and keeping the community engaged, Dr. Mamman was notable for her explanation of the “Green Book” controversy, where a question was posed at a board meeting specifically about two books that were part of the curriculum. She not only quickly answered a question asking for clarification surrounding them during a BOE meeting, but also gave important insight to the Vibe when it was writing about these books and why they are being challenged in other parts of the country.
While achievements are important, it’s also important to examine the best parts of a job. When asked what her favorite part of serving on the SBSD was, Dr. Mamman said, “My favorite part of serving with the SBBOE has been the people I’ve had the privilege to work with in so many different capacities. From teachers to administrators, parents, and students, each collaboration has deepened my understanding and enriched the work we do together.”
Additionally, when asked about what advice she would give to future SBBOE members, Dr. Mamman said, “My advice to the next Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction is to focus on building strong relationships across the district, always keep students at the center of every decision, and be a tireless advocate for teaching and learning.”
Dr. Mamman’s hard work and dedication towards making inclusive learning environments where the community has a say in how things are run is extremely commendable, and it is clear that the person taking her place on the board has large shoes to fill.
